ORTHOTICS SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR YOU

At ReBALANCE our approach has always been focused on how each individual body moves and functions as a continuous unit from top to bottom. Custom orthotics embraces this philosophy and provides long term outcomes. Grounded in a deep understanding of the foot and inspired by its impact on the entire body, we are excited to provide this service at the clinic.

Who needs custom orthotics?

Honestly, not everyone. Some people's feet have developed optimally or have compensated in a supportive and functional way. Other people directly experience imbalances, pain and dysfunction in their feet leading to a variety of issues throughout the rest of the body.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CUSTOM ORTHOTICS & PRE-FABRICATED INSERT FOUND IN A STORE

Prefabricated shoe inserts are created for the most common foot type, whereas custom orthotics are geared toward your foot's entire life history.

Custom orthotics take into account the aches and pains found above the foot. We assess tissues and joints of the knees, hips, and low back.

Orthotics can be made specifically for these types of footwear or professions: soccer, skiing, snowboarding, hockey, hiking,  nursing, work trades, and dress shoes. Plus many more.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A CUSTOM ORTHOTIC ASSESSMENT

There will be an initial history of present condition, followed by past injuries or concerns.

1st - fourteen orthopedic tests evaluating all joints and soft tissue from low back to feet, and a visual observation of how you walk.

2nd -  walk across the dynamic GaitScan technology which has 4096 sensors and takes 300 frames per second, fully evaluating every part of the foot.

3rd - a static scan of the foot will be done using the GaitScan showing any further discrepancies needing to be added to the custom orthotic.

In the second half of the following 2 minute video the GaitScan technology is shown

Orthotics Do More Than Arch Support

pro·pri·o·cep·tion
[ prō′prē-ō-sĕp′shən ] n. = the unconscious perception of movement and spatial orientation arising from stimuli within the body itself. Or in other words, your body's ability to sense movement, location and action.

Orthotics not only support the arches of your feet, provide cushion to painful areas, and improve alignment of bones while standing or walking, but they also provide valuable feedback to your central nervous system (aka brain and spinal cord).

More specifically orthotics help during the phase of walking where the foot is off the ground known as non-weight bearing or swing phase. The orthotic provides external stimuli to the base of the foot and in turn the brain measures this stimuli (proprioception). The brain then activates the appropriate muscles prior to the foot making contact with the ground. Over time the muscular strength needed to provide support for your arches will improve.

EDUCATIONAL MOMENT

206 bones in the body, 52 between both feet - equaling 25% of bones found in body.

23 muscles attach and movements found in each foot.

33 individual joints making up the intricacies of each foot.

107 ligaments in each foot.

8,000+ nerve endings in the feet.

We believe in making orthotics as affordable to everyone as we can, because we know the difference it can make in someone's overall health.
